New Keyboard

Looking for a new Keyboard. Nothing fancy, some light gaming from time to time. But mostly just a decent typing experience for when I work from home. (Which is often) So something not too expensive either.

Hey Shika, I saw the other recs were mostly massive gaming keyboards, which seems like the exact opposite of what you're looking for lol.

If you just want a really solid, quiet typing experience for WFH, definitely check out the Logitech MX Keys S.

I know a ton of people who use this for their home office and it’s amazing. It has low-profile keys, so it feels a lot like typing on a really premium laptop. It's super quiet (which is a lifesaver if you're typing during Zoom meetings) and it just looks really clean on a desk. It can totally handle light gaming on the side, but it's built mainly for everyday typing comfort. Plus it fits perfectly right in the middle of your budget!

This is the point where keyboards start feeling “proper.” It has a much better typing experience than typical gaming brands, hot-swappable switches, solid build, and QMK/VIA support so you can remap anything without being locked into software.

If you want something slightly more premium and wireless, the Keychron K4 Pro RGB Mechanical Keyboard is the upgrade path. Same idea but with wireless and a fuller layout. It’s still within your budget ceiling.

For context, even enthusiasts tend to steer people toward brands like Keychron, Ducky, or Varmilo over typical “gaming” keyboards because they focus more on typing feel and build quality rather than just RGB and branding.

So the clean answer is this:
Get the Keychron V1 with brown or red switches. It’s the best balance of typing comfort, build quality, and price
